Sea Stars, more commonly called Starfish, move more quickly than you might expect. They have hundreds of tube feet on their undersides. Sea Stars are in the family Asteroidea. They are related to Sand Dollars, Sea Urchins and Sea Cucumbers.
Low tide is a great time to see some, as Peggy Berryhill photographed above.

I'm glad to see this. Something is killing the Pacific sea stars…seeing some nice big healthy ones is heartening.
ReplyDeleteMaureen, I am told there are less here recently. It is so sad what is happening to them. I hope scientists find the answer soon. I will ask my photographers to go out after the storms and see if the sea stars are okay.
